The most important part of any local church, and life in general for that matter, is relationships! What kinds of relationships? Real relationships that encourage us to grow spiritually and know God intimately. Besides loving God Himself, Jesus first commandment was to love each other. Our Rock Groups are all about relationships and learning to love people and serve them as Jesus did.
Everyone at COTR is encouraged to be an active part of a Rock Group – from new attenders to long-time members. You are welcome and wanted at any of our Rock Groups!
The mission of the Rock Groups is to fulfill the great commandment (Mark 12:30,31) and the great commission (Matt 28:19-20) through small home fellowship groups which meet for the purpose of:
1) Providing a personal Pastor for everyone
2) Encouraging fellowship and relationships
3) Receiving personal ministry
4) Growing in Christ through learning and applying the Word of God
5) Discovering and using spiritual gifts
6) Evangelizing those in and out of the church
7) Mentoring future leaders
FAQ’s
What is a Rock Group? (it’s not a music band) A Rock Group is a small home fellowship group of around 5 to 15 people led by one or more Rock Pastors. Our Rock Pastors are volunteers who have met the scriptural qualifications of a pastor and have been publicly commissioned as real Pastors.
What happens at a Rock Group?
Fellowship, worship, group discussion of the Word, and personal prayer – all within about an hour and a half.
Why do I need to be in a Rock Group?
It is part of the vision of our church. We all need a Pastor to care for us and teach us to use our God-given gifts. We also need to have real relationships with others in our local church and endeavor to be a blessing in their lives too.
How do I find the right Rock Group for me?
Everything you need is right here on our website! On the left side of this page, simply click on the names of each of our Rock Pastors to learn more about each group. Their pages include a personal welcome, photos, a calendar of gatherings, locations and maps, and even a way to invite (Evite) a friend to join you if you would like. Also, flyers about each Rock Group are located in the upper gathering area by the audio/video sales counter. You may want to visit several groups before joining one. Though they all share the same purpose, each group is a little different. Ask God to direct you to the right one for you. You will be blessed!
When do they meet?
Most Rock Groups meet on Sunday afternoons or evenings. However, some of the groups meet other days of the week.
How do I dress and what do I bring?
Dress casual. Bring yourself and your bible if you would like.
May I bring a friend the first time I come?
Of course! You are welcome to bring a friend anytime.
Can I get prayer for my personal needs?
Yes! If you want to be prayed for, just ask. Our Rock Groups are the best place for personal prayer.
What about my children?
Some groups incorporate children into their gathering times, while others do not. Feel free to contact the group leaders to inquire about children.
Why Rock Groups?
Acts 2:46-47
Continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved. NKJ
Acts 20:20
I have not hesitated to preach anything that would be helpful to you but have taught you publicly and from house to house. NIV
